A la Carte Basic Class

We still have spaces in our upcoming A la Carte Classes! Call or Stop by to sign up!

This December we will be offering an A la Carte version of the Basic class. The great thing about this set up is that you can choose which sessions that you would most benefit from. The other great thing is that if you want to take all 5 sessions, you complete the class in only 2 weeks as opposed to 5 weeks. Classes are $30 each or if you sign up for all 5 - (Flat repair, bearing adjustments, Brakes, Chain replacement and Rear derailer adjustment) it is only $130.

Each night the staff at the Broadway Bicycle School accounts for the day's finances and saves this data in an envelope that will hold that day's deposit slips. In early summer 2009 the staff of the Broadway Bicycle School began creating images on the deposit envelopes to the delight of their co-workers. The Door 3 Gallery, in honor of the last show of the season, displays these deposit envelopes now.
Reception October 29th from 7pm to 9pm. The usual dainties will be served.

Birthday Bash

Well the birthday party this past Saturday was good fun! Our full staff was working all day so we were able to keep up with the madness ...and eat 3 birthday cakes. Only two more years until the big 4-0!

MassBike Spin Series

Looking to get out on your bike with some other people?? Well Broadway mechanic Dan-O is leading a MassBike ride on the last Saturday of every month this Summer! The ride starts at 10:30am at Broadway Bicycle School and ends around 1:30. This month's ride is a short one to the Boston Commons so if you haven't been out on your bike in a while this will be perfect. If you are interested just RSVP to broadwaybikeride@hotmail.com.

Broadway turns 37!

Bianchi mountain bike

We recently got in this sweet, pre-owned, Bianchi DISS. The DISS is a disc brake, single speed mountain bike with a rigid fork but it also comes with a Marzocchi Dirt Jumper suspension fork in case you want to switch out the rigid and do some serious MTBing! This bike would also make a great commuting bike by just putting on some slick tires.

Door 3 Gallery opening this Thursday!

 The Door 3 Gallery is presenting its latest collection of work this Thursday, May 28th, at 8pm.  The show is titled "Portrait of a Mechanic" and will feature a variety of local and traveling artists.  Come down and join us for some great wine, cheese, crackers and of course, art!

Memorial Day

Unfortunately, we will be closed on Monday May 25th for Memorial Day...We will reopen on Tuesday the 26th at 8am.  

Pancake Breakfast....

Last week's pancake breakfast had the biggest we have had in a long time - attendance wise that is.  We have made bigger pancakes!   We had three cooks cooking up chocolate chip, blueberry and mixed berry pancakes and there was still a line to get pancakes.  Next year, we might need 4 cooks!  

This gentleman showed up about an hour after the pancake breakfast ended asking if he was too late for pancakes which made everyone laugh so I took a pancake from the trash and he ate it.  Just kidding! We had a huge plate of leftovers that he got to share in.  

More than one way to transport a tandem...

What do you do when you need to get a tandem from Cambridge to JP?  Well you can ride it or you can just do what one of the mechanics here did the other day - strap the front wheel of that tandem to the back of your Surly Big Dummy and tow it.  It certainly didn't seem like a good idea at first but it worked like a charm!

Rainy days shouldn't be a downer....

Rainy days are no fun - especially for bikers.  So, this season, if you get out on your bike and come to the shop when it is raining we'll show you our appreciation by giving you 10% off parts and accessories.  Just mention that you saw this post on the blog before we ring you up.

Bicycle Films at the HFA

Pancakes

As part of Bike Week, next Tuesday from 7:30am to 9:30am we will be serving up some of the best pancakes you can get at a bike shop.  Stop by, have some pancakes and meet some other biking folks from around Cambridge - it's a very good time!

You can find some great deals in the used parts area just keep in mind it's all "self-help" (there is lots of stuff and if we sifted around bins looking for exactly what you needed we couldn't sell it so cheaply!)  Also, we don't install used parts, so the used area is best for people who do a lot of their own work on their bike. Come check it out!

Field trip to Circle-A

New England is home to quite a few custom frame builders and this week a few of us from the shop visited Providence's Circle-A Cycles to check out the shop but more importantly to get fitted for new bikes!
I have never thought of getting a custom frame but, being on the tall side, I have had a really hard time finding a bike that fits me well. So I figured in order to get a bike that actually works for me, I need to get a custom build. At least that is what I keep telling myself. After a tour of their shop, Brian, pictured below, got me sized up for my new frame and starting plugging in numbers to get me a perfect fit for what I plan on doing with my bike (wheelies mostly). Check them out, the guys down there (Brian and Chris) are very cool and make some of the neatest looking bikes around.

Door 3 Gallery 2009 Premiere

The Door 3 Gallery's premiere show of 2009 coming up April 30th !  Come by Broadway this Thursday between 8 and 9:30pm for some great art in the most intimate gallery in the city.  Art, Music, refreshments, cheese and crackers...sounds like a perfect way to spend a Thursday evening.  

Moving day

I was on Chic Cyclist's blog the other day and saw this pic of one of the mechanics who works here at Broadway. He built a shelving unit for the shop at his house and was transporting it over to Broadway on our bike trailer. Looks like hard work - he should have just used the shop Hummer!

Spring is here....

Well things are getting really busy around here! In years past, we had been closed on Mondays so that we could catch up on work and order parts but this year for the first time in many years we will be open 7 days a week during the Spring and Summer. So starting April 13th come on down to Broadway any day and we will be here! It should be a hoot!
